Continuum

Martin Browne Contemporary Sydney 2018

Continuum delved into themes of memory, family history, and ancestral connections to landscapes. Shaw's distinctive technique involves pouring acrylic paint and resin to craft surreal, vibrant depictions of natural scenes. The showcased works included pieces like The Grandmother – 1908 The Gorge and each reflecting personal narratives intertwined with environmental elements. Additionally, Shaw expanded her artistic expression through a high-definition video titled Continuum created in collaboration with animator Alina Shagidullina and sound designer Jimmer Sudette. This video further explored her reinterpretation of landscape art, blending the sublime with a sense of artificiality.

I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live and work, the Wurundjeri and Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation, and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters, and culture. I pay my respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
