Fjall 3 minute HD Video 2018

Kate Shaw's video work Fjall is a vivid extension of the artistic exploration she undertook during her 2013 residency at the SÍM Residency in Reykjavík, Iceland. Immersed in Iceland's dramatic landscapes, Shaw drew inspiration from the country's glacial terrains and volcanic formations. This influence is evident in Fjall, where she employs acrylic and resin to create swirling, psychedelic visuals that mirror the fluidity and dynamism of natural phenomena like lava flows and melting glaciers . The video complements her Fjallkonan (Lady of the Mountain) series, which was showcased at Fehily Contemporary in Melbourne in 2013, and reflects her engagement with themes of environmental change and the sublime beauty of nature.

Fjall is part of the collection of the Rockhampton Art Musuem and the Justin House Museum.
